SC Connor for lieutenant governor get Upstate endorsement

Several things stand out about Bill Connor, 42, in a crowded field seeking the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor, and first among them is this: He has a clear vision for his time in office.

Connor, of Orangeburg, is an attorney working mostly in insurance defense. He is also, following graduation from The Citadel and 12 years of active duty in the Army, a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves. He volunteered for a yearlong combat deployment to Afghanistan in 2007 and was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions there.

Lieutenant governor has long been considered a largely ceremonial position in South Carolina, consisting mostly of presiding over the Senate, and the person who holds it draws a part-time paycheck of $46,545. Current Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer changed that dynamic somewhat by bringing the S.C. Office on Aging under the lieutenant governor’s control.
